Thea Energy, previously known as Princeton Stellarators, was founded in 2022 and is based in Princeton NJ. Thea Energy is focused on simplifying stellarator design using planar High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) coils. The company’s approach seeks to overcome the historical complexity and cost of stellarators by rethinking how magnetic fields are generated and controlled. By combining high-temperature superconducting technology with software-driven magnetic field optimisation, Thea Energy aims to create a practical and scalable pathway toward commercial fusion energy.

The company has advanced beyond early-stage concepts, completing a pre-conceptual design for a full-scale stellarator fusion power plant in late 2025 and submitting this design to the US Department of Energy’s Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program.
