Renaissance Fusion – founded in 2019 and headquartered in Grenoble, France –  is developing a next-generation stellarator concept that combines simplified modular coils, direct-write high-temperature superconductors and a flowing liquid metal first wall. The company is advancing proprietary manufacturing approaches for both coil systems and liquid metal plasma-facing components, with the aim of producing more compact and manufacturable stellarators than traditional designs.

Renaissance Fusion’s long-term plan is to develop a low-aspect-ratio stellarator capable of delivering grid-connected fusion power in the 2030s. The company has referenced a target plant size on the order of 1 GW of electrical output, with an indicative timeline pointing to the early-to-mid 2030s for first grid connection, contingent on technology maturation and regulatory development.
