Stellar Core Fusion

Stellar Core Fusion (星核聚变) or more fully Hefei Stellar Core Fusion Energy Technology Co., Ltd.  合肥星核聚变能源科技有限公司) is a private Chinese commercial fusion startup pursuing the stellarator confinement route, specifically a High-Temperature Superconductivity (HTS) and Advanced Quasi-Isodynamic (QI) design.

The company is based in Hefei, the centre of China’s magnetic confinement fusion research and home to the EAST superconducting tokamak, but distinguishes itself from domestic peers by building exclusively on the stellarator pathway rather than the tokamak designs that dominate China’s existing fusion supply chain. The company’s founders argue that Hefei’s mature tokamak-oriented supply chain can serve a stellarator programme, with more than 80% of the required industrial and supply-chain systems considered transferable.

The company is also called variously, Xinghe Fusion (the pinyin transliteration); Hefei Star Core Fusion Energy Co., Ltd. (direct translation of the company’s legal-name), and in places Stellar Nuclear Fusion.
