Dongsheng Fusion (东昇聚变) – based in Shanghai, China and also known as SUNUP Fusion – was co-incubated by Fudan University, the Shanghai Future Industry Fund, Haitong International Innovation Centre, CASSTAR (中科创星), and Qiying Tongchuang (启盈同创). The company is led scientifically by Xu Min (许敏), a specially-appointed professor at Fudan University’s Institute of Modern Physics who previously served as chief engineer of the Southwest Institute of Physics (核工业西南物理研究院), one of China’s principal state fusion research institutions. The core technical team of over thirty scientists and engineers is drawn from Fudan University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, MIT, Princeton, and domestic fusion research institutes.
Dongsheng Fusion describes itself as the only enterprise pursuing a tokamak-configuration magnetic confinement fusion approach using deuterium–helium-3 (DHe3) as fuel.
