General Fusion awarded CA$5m
4 December 2023
The Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) of Canada has provided an additional CA$5 million to support General Fusion's LM26 Magnetized Target Fusion demonstration. The goal is to achieve fusion conditions of over 100 million degrees Celsius by 2025 and move towards scientific breakeven by 2026. General Fusion's CEO, Greg Twinney, believes that the LM26 machine will reduce commercialization risks and accelerate the company's path to commercialization within the next decade. This funding complements the CA$5mn previously granted by the British Columbia government, bringing the total support for General Fusion to CA$54.3mn.
