Commonwealth Fusion Systems’s HTS magnet sustains magnetic field >20 tesla

8 September 2021

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) and MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) have successfully tested the world’s strongest high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet, reaching a sustained magnetic field of over 20 tesla. This milestone enables CFS's compact tokamak device, SPARC, to potentially achieve net energy from fusion, significantly advancing fusion science and commercial fusion energy.
