China Fusion Energy

Founded: December 2023 (Preparatory) & June 2025

China Fusion Energy Co., Ltd – sometimes referred to as China Fusion Energy Inc. and more properly 中国聚变能源有限公司（筹）or China Fusion Energy Co., Ltd. (Preparatory) – was established in late 2023. It was formed through a collaboration of more than two dozen of China’s top state-owned energy firms and research institutes and at launch was minimally capitalized shell company, as is common practice for major state-led projects.

In July 2025, an existing subsidiary of CNNC – China Nuclear Fuel Co., Ltd. 中国核燃料有限公司 – was renamed to China Fusion Energy Co., Ltd. 中国聚变能源有限公司. This new company, also known as CFEC,  both consolidated the mission, consortium agreements, and capital-raising from the “preparatory” company and received further injections of registered capital.

CFEC will consolidate and connect national resources to advance fusion energy industrialization with the objective of developing a MCF fusion power plant.
