Crossfield Fusion, founded in 2019 and based in London, UK, was founded to create advanced, compact fusion reactors aimed at generating carbon-free heat and electricity. The company developed a technology, known as the ‘Epicyclotron’, which underwent its initial testing in 2021.

Through that experimentation and detailed modelling of loss mechanisms the company concluded that the reactor would not scale  to deliver a net gain fusion reactor. The company’s technology is now being optimised for more targeted uses including in fusion energy.
