Terra Fusion, founded in 2024 and based in College Park, MD, was formed by the team responsible for the University of Maryland’s Centrifugal Mirror Fusion Experiment (CMFX), is leveraging CMFX technology and preparing to scale up to the next generation of CMF devices. The CMFX aims to achieve plasma confinement using a magnetized plasma in a mirror configuration, with azimuthal rotation introduced by a radial electric field.

The University of Maryland Baltimore County has a grant from the ARPA-E Bethe program that supports the CMFX  and Terra Fusion’s technology is currently being tested at the University of Maryland College Park.
