HyperJet Fusion Corporation, founded in 2017 and based in Chantilly, VA, focused on the development of plasma jet-driven magneto-inertial fusion (PJMIF). The company spun out NearStar Fusion in 2021. Both co-existed for some time but Hyperjet Fusion, along with its team and associated plasma-gun technology lineage, was subsequently acquired/absorbed by NearStar Fusion. 

The company’s technology involved using an array of discrete supersonic plasma jets to form a spherically imploding plasma liner that compresses a magnetized plasma target to achieve fusion conditions.  It aimed to develop a faster, cheaper, and more efficient approach, potentially usable in fusion energy, aerospace, and industrial applications.
