Meranti Research Laboratories, founded in 2022 and based in Shenton Park, Western Australia, specialises in investigating Parker’s Effect – a self-reinforcing plasma confinement method, which could be used in the context of fusion technology. This effect concerns the interaction between isotropic plasma and vacuum magnetic fields. When a flowing plasma is confined by the magnetic field, the boundary layer can remain in equilibrium, reinforcing confinement.

Meranti aims to experimentally validate Parker’s Effect using simulations. If the simulations are promising, they will design their device, the Plasma Storage Ring (PSR), which is intended to enhance plasma confinement efficiency and stability.
