Marvel Fusion – founded in 2019 and based in Munich – is pursuing a laser-driven inertial fusion concept centred on ultrafast, high-contrast laser pulses and nano-structured targets engineered to optimise the coupling of laser energy into fusion-relevant particles. Rather than relying on traditional thermal compression, Marvel aims to use tailored nanostructures to enable high-efficiency, non-thermal fusion pathways that may offer improved scalability and reduced driver energy requirements.

The company is working toward a proof-of-concept (PoC) demonstration device by 2027, supported by collaborations with leading institutions such as Colorado State University (CSU), Thales and ELI-NP, and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), which provide advanced laser platforms, target fabrication expertise, and theoretical support.
