Stellarex was founded in 2022, a spin-out from Princeton University. The company is focused on developing high-field stellarators using high-temperature superconducting magnets. The company’s goal is to simplify the construction and maintenance of stellarators while enhancing their efficiency and reliability.
Stellarex is collaborating with partners including Savannah River National Laboratory, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to develop and demonstrate a prototype commercial stellarator fusion pilot plant.
In late 2025, Stellarex announced its participation in the Centre for Fusion Energy being developed in partnership with the Canadian Federal Government, AECL, and OPG. Stellarex committed to contribute up to $39m over three years to the Centre to support the development of fusion power through the design, construction, and operation of a demonstration reactor.
