Type One Energy Group – founded in 2019 and based in Oakridge, TN – is focused on developing stellarator fusion systems  leveraging high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets, modern computational physics, and advanced manufacturing to create a reliable and commercially viable source of clean, base-load electricity.

Type One Energy’s “Project Infinity” is a multi-phase initiative aimed at commercializing fusion energy by the mid-2030s using a stellarator approach. The project is a collaboration with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

The first phase involves the construction of “Infinity One,” a testbed stellarator at the former Bull Run Fossil Plant in Tennessee, to verify the design, efficiency, and affordability of their fusion pilot plant. The subsequent phase, “Infinity Two,” is a planned 350 MWe fusion pilot power plant.
