Shaanxi Startorus Fusion Technology Co. Ltd. (星环聚能科技) was founded in 2021 and in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China, by a team of researchers primarily from Tsinghua University. The company specializes in compact spherical tokamak designs using magnetic reconnection heating and aims to demonstrate the engineering and economic feasibility of compact fusion power systems.

Its first experimental device, SUNIST-2, was co-designed and co-built with Tsinghua University and has achieved initial plasma operations and magnetic reconnection heating experiments. The company is currently progressing toward construction of a next-generation validation device, CTRFR-1, often described as a negative triangularity spherical tokamak (负三角球形托卡马克) in Chinese descriptions.

While legally registered in Shaanxi, the company also operates under Shanghai Startorus Fusion Technology Co., Ltd. and has expanded its headquarters and major activities to Shanghai’s Jiading District following its Series A/Pre-A funding rounds.
