ENN Group, founded in 1989 and based in Hebei, China, is a Chinese conglomerate focused on creating modern energy systems. It began as an urban gas provider and expanded into various segments of the natural gas industry, including distribution, trade, transportation, and storage.

The ENN Energy Research Institute is division of ENN that was created in 2006.  The Institute houses three research programs, one of which is Compact Fusion Energy. That program aims to develop economical fusion technology to deliver commercial fusion electricity and heat. It pursues two separate fusion projects: a spherical tokamak called ‘EXL-50’, and a field reversed configuration the ‘HeLong Experiment’  or ‘EHL Experiment’.
