Helical Fusion Co., Ltd., founded in 2021 and based in Tokyo, Japan, aims to develop and implement a commercial helical fusion reactor for base-load electric power. Helical Fusion is focused on constructing a power plant utilising a heliotron design, a type of magnetic confinement fusion concept similar to stellarators but composed of continuously wound helical coils, similar to Japan’s Large Helical Device (LHD).
The company aims to develop its fusion device through its “Helix Program”, aiming to achieve net power generation and year-round operation.
